Behind the scenes in RR4

Post  Nemesissy on Fri May 27, 2011 11:59 pm

Is anyone willing to share their tactics and behind the scenes dealings that went on during revival round 4? (both battleship and chun)

My plans for chun were mainly psychology based and obviously didn't work on dysania. You can see what I tried to do on the "Throwing the game" topic. I didn't see any room for teamwork in this game, but apparently there was.

Also best not to say anything that could affect the tie-breaker.

The problem with psychological tactics is that they are very circular.

I have a good idea on what happened for two of the three games, but I am unable to provide any statement without permission from the players involved, in which case, they may as well just post themselves.

Although R4 has still been the most interesting behind-the-scenes game so far.

heh, i'll say something about battleships then....

me and a couple of others decided we would agree on a (majority) section of the board to bomb, and all hide our ships in the minority section to avoid suspicion. I'm only bringing this up because we needn't have bothered: there was no epic incentive to go after any one person.... and the only person who ever said outright that they were gonna bomb me (crys), i found out afterward happened to share 2 of my 3 squares... meaning she couldn't without giving herself away. Wink

Something i found curious about the battleships game actually... and that's just how many of us shared squares with other people. It was really uncanny. It reminds me of that old chestnut of if you ask people to pick a number between 1 and 10, a disproportionate amount will say seven. I wonder if it was anything similar to that?

I think it is the tendency to go for certain areas. Very few people picked centre squares.

I did consider randomizing everyone's starting squares, to ensure there were no overlaps, but ended up deciding against it. Can't remember my reasoning.

I just tried doing that for you first, since it was your suggestion, but I found an interesting problem: If my theory was wrong, it may give information that you shouldn't be privy to.

Well now that it's over. Mind telling me what happened behind the scenes?

the couple of others dysania mentioned were myself and masquerade.

If only it worked! I wouldn't have had to go up against the liar king in RR4.
