The Official Game Suggestion Thread

Post  Forli on Thu Jul 01, 2010 11:24 am

First of all, for those who don't know who I am, I'll introduce myself.

I am Forli, the new dealer, formerly a player named SeDr0. As the players complained about the quiality of the games, I was put in charge of the game desing from now on.
As some of you may know, I held a Liar Game Tournament before, so I'm quite experienced on the game designing and dealing. My previous LGT held eight succesfull games.

About the current games:
Round 1 is already anounced for the winners of the Preliminary Round, it won't be altered.
Revival round 1 maybe continues as planned, but that's not certain yet.
Round 2 will be a game of mine.

As the game designer, it's my duty to know what the players want. Of course, I don't intend you to create a full game (Though you can do it if you please) , but I would like to know what KIND of games would you like to play.

Any loose idea, or concept, or maybe a "base game" (I.E, musical chairs) of which you would like to see a "Liar version" will help.

Would you rather we pm you our suggestions rather than posting them? After all, for this sort of thing, I would assume that private would be better than public...

If you guys have a full prepared game and wouldn't like everyone to know about it, yes, PM me.

But if it's just an idea, concept or base game, posting it here should be fine.

if u have the brains and ingenuity to create a base game like musical chairs over the internet that works, than you have my full support and respect haha. i think a game where the dealer receives information from all the players, then releases the group result at the end of the round would be good. it allows players with more personal freedom. there is already a sense of manditory factionism running through the games, and i think individual privacy would allow more variants from the perfect sensible outcome of a game.

Interesting.

Round 2 game will indeed allow absolute freedom in the doing of things, and you won't be instructed to follow a certain pattern or instructions (As it happened on Centipede game, where you could only play following the game scheme).
It will be possible winning the Round 2 in a completly individual way, or you could also play as a team. It's up for you to decide, but none of those choices will be better than the other one (Again, in Centipede game teamwork was indeed the best choice).

Hmmm, I think there's nothing I can do about it. Winners already have the round information and they may have informed other players about it. Changing the round would be too chaotic, I think...

I'm surprised you of all people became a dealer, anyways, some ideas to share. This may not be your Round 2 ideas, but it would be interesting to have a week long game where contracts (only for the game) may have some use there and also where everyone of all teams can go against each other; of course in my game scenario I would intend that only one person would win, not one person of each group.

I'm surprised you of all people became a dealer

Why's that?

And about the contracts, I'm making a thread about it.

Has anybody played the card game Mafia?
Well its not really card game but basically you have civilians and the mafia and you kill or players leaving only the mafia as winners or the civilians.
It would be seen possible on the chatbox and the LGT officers as judge.
It's a really fun game thats easy to pick up too X3

I think it would be interesting if there was some sort of chess game. Maybe with each piece representing a sum of money?

lmao...

Sed has a crazy chess game already xD (However, Sed, I think you should wait until there's only 12 ppl left before doing it. Or 10, I forget exactly which it was.)

EDIT: Beat me to it, Sed T_T

Fun fun then. I've been playing a fair bit of chess recently and I've always wondered what Liar Game chess would be like, ever since reading the manga =P

It's a really fun game, but I'm unsure how it would be adapted into an LGT round xD

Of course, that's what Forli is here for, so Wink

Freeze Tag, I dunno about Chess, unless you changed the rules like make both sides the same color or something.

Thanks for making this thread.

the idea of a liar chess game is already mentiont in the liar game word press:

Let’s start with the simplest of the three I offered there… Miniature Chess. It would be played by two players, presumably under conditions similar to the second revival round. The board is 4*4, and follows rules based very loosely on traditional chess.

There are many changes, however. To begin with, the way the pieces move.

Pawns: Move one space forward, and take diagonally. Thus no initial two spaces forward movement.
Knights: Move as normal: L shape on board, taking any enemy piece they land on.
Rooks: Move one space horizontally or vertically.
Bishops: Move one space diagonally.
Royalty: Move one space in any direction (like a King normally).

But there is another key difference to this game. The players are permitted the unique ability to select any four out of those five pieces listed above, and place them on their own row in any order they wish… and which is which is hidden from the enemy.

From there the game can be taken in a wide variety of directions. Perhaps have a rule prohibiting a player from undoing the immediately previous move? And what’s to keep a player from moving a piece however they will? Clearly a rule will have to be in effect that will prevent a player from doing this. Having a judge be fully aware of both pieces, and prohibit both players from making illegal moves is an option for a balanced game, but this is the Liar Game – that sort of thing doesn’t quite fit here. Perhaps, if a player is able to demonstrate that another player has cheated given previous moves on the board, he is declared the winner?

I believe that in this case, victory should be attainable in a number of ways. The first is to do as above, the second is to simply capture all of their pieces.

A major factor in this game is the size of the board and the limitations on piece movement. As one is not aware of what any given player holds on their field, it pays to be cautious… and yet such action could easily lead to being cornered by a cunning player. On the other hand, aggression will lead to a player falling into a trap just as easily.

You may note that the rules for these games are not fully formed. This is partly intentional, since it leaves more room open for discussion. The other part is out of uncertainty on certain key elements that could make or break the game if dealt with incorrectly.
